31 Days: Celebrating YOU!

Welcome to 31 Days:
Celebrating You!

I begin this first post of our series by taking a long, slow deep breath and chanting our dear Nestor's Wisdom Statement in my head:

“It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful…It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful…Thank Goodness it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful...”

This is the first time I’ve participated in a 31 Days series and I'm very excited about participating. I want to start off thanking The Nestor for starting up the 31 Days Series five years ago and also thank the wonderful posters who participated over the years and from whom I have derived much pleasure and benefit of their wisdom. You can click here for more information what 31 Days is all about..

I’m calling this series “Celebrating You!” because for the month of October I want for us to take time out each day to learn about and celebrate who we are. I really wanted to name this series was “Why YES, it is really is all about Me!” but I decided to try to keep it classy at least for my first time out. The essence of this thought, however, is what I want to impress upon you for this series. It really is all about you.  It really is. We’re going to talk about how, we’re going to talk about why and by the end of these 31 days, you’ll believe it too.

As this is the introductory post, I will introduce myself.

My name is Cassandra. I am fifty-seven years old (yes, I said it out loud), a mother of three wonderful sons and the gram-gram of two wonderful grandsons and three lovely granddaughters. I currently live in the Great State of Texas (…and yes, you do have to say it that way. It’s a Texas thing…) where I reside in my grandmother’s 1920 historically registered home near downtown Dallas. My favorite color is red, my favorite season of the year is the fall and some of my favorite places in the whole wide world are bookstores. I am in love with bookstores and I can spend all day in one and frequently do. I am a Christian, (unapologetic and unashamed) and I currently serve in my church as the pastor of women. I love working with women. I think women are glorious creatures and I am so pleased to be one. We have are issues, yes, but…well…we’re women. That happens.

As you can tell I do try to keep things light but one the thing I am thoroughly convinced about is it really is all about you and we’re going to be Celebrating You! for the month of October.  Please stay with us and join in the conversation. We'd really love to get to know you.

Please take a moment to say 'Hi' and tell us a bit about yourself so we can begin Celebrating You!

  1. what a fun topic!

I'm just a normal woman who loves her chocolate, chips, and romantic comedies. I recently lost 45 pounds and you can follow my journey here. I cry at sappy Hallmark movies, I dance to musical cards at the grocery store, and I hate to dust.

I'm a curly-headed dreamer who loves my Savior Jesus, adores my best friend called Hubby, and cherishes (most days, te hee) my three children. I never knew how much I would love being at home full time with my kiddos, but I do! What a privilege and high calling from the Lord!

In high school I would hide behind science and math classes to avoid any part of reading and writing. The irony of it? Now I love to read and write and I do most of it here with this silly thing called a blog.

I love to take pictures, bake yummy things, and make my home cozy and inviting. I'm a tom-boy at heart turned HGTV junkie!

It is my desire to glorify God through encouraging and edifying other women. My prayer is that from reading this blog you will be lifted up and it will motivate you to love God, your spouse and children that much more.

I dabble in blog design so if you are looking for a reasonable price, check out my design site over here: http://www.graphicdesignsbytraci.blogspot.com

  3. Hi Cassandra, Traci and Stacie, it's good to be back in the Renaissance again! We are celebrating my 52nd birthday tomorrow.

My family purchased a small farm in rural Kentucky this summer and are looking forward to getting it productive again. My husband returned to college after 30 years and is realizing (thank the Lord) that he just might be as intelligent as I've always thought he was. I am hoping to begin graduate school (MFA-Creative Writing) in the spring. We homeschool our 3 children: 2 boys (16 and 15) and 1 girl (10). My daughter and I attend church (sporadically since the move), but the menfolk not so much (but we're working on that). ;)

Hubby had planned a day out at a regional festival last week, and I knew it would be taxing on me. I prayed that morning for strength and for a lightening of my mood, so I would be a drag on the family. On the way back to our truck, I told my husband this. He smiled and said, "Well, it worked!"

I love acting in live theatre, reading just about anything, crafting, gardening, traveling, and all things Scottish. I like cooking (it's not love yet, but it's growing on me).

  4. Hi Cassandra, I love this and I love your quote, "Thank goodness it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful." That is going on my joy board. I'm just finishing up an online class and beginning a painting one that lasts five weeks. I can't commit to anything else, but if this drops into my mailbox everyday, I will read it and may respond.

    1. Don't you love that?! I wish I could take credit for it, but it's the theme of The Nestor's blog, Nesting Place. It is a powerful statement and I really do repeat it when I find myself making myself crazy over things. I keep saying to until I calm myself down so I can move on. I really did do it when I began to write this first post. :) So glad it blessed you too.

  6. I found you too! I live in MA where I am trying to keep up with a newborn and a preschooler. I write for two blogs (my own and a blog for a cloth diaper service). My days are BUSY and full. Every night I collapse into bed thankful for the CRAZY.

    1. Yep, you found me and thanks for looking for me! :) I want you to know I'm still laughing out loud thinking of your 31 Days topic.

"Big. Girl. Panties. I'm Putting them on. Consider this your warning."

I want that on a t-shirt so badly...

      Have a good weekend!
